New Studio!

Just a quick note that I have a new studio located on Friendship Road in Daphne. Studio sessions are available by appointment only. But this opens up a whole new world of photographing for me. So if you have been waiting to schedule a new portrait session give me a call. Want some proof of the quality? Look no further… These are from a studio session this past week.

Realtors and Builders

I guess my wife is OK with me helping out some of her Competition as she has just opened the door for me to do photography for Realtors and Builders. I have been doing this type of photography for 3-4 years and have earned such accolades as the front cover of Baldwin Home and Garden, and many many comments by Realtors that the pictures for a particular listing were amazing. I use only the finest quality Canon “L” Series lenses to capture a home. I have the eye for detail for those homes in higher price ranges and for the smaller homes I have a wide angle lens that I use that can make the home look 4000 sq ft. So if you are a Realtor or a Builder that needs eye catching images check out my portfolio for some samples. When you are ready to make some more sales give me a call. I think I can help

Scott Kelby Photo Walk Fairhope Alabama

So I recently attended the Scott Kelby Photo Walk in Fairhope. For those of you that are not aware of what this is. Scott Kelby is an internationally known trainer on Photoshop which is a piece of software that most photographers use. He used his notoriety to get people all over the world organized for these photo walks. Times were different for each location but basically a gathering of 50 people for each location got together and walked around taking pictures. So imagine the scene when more than 50 people with various sizes of camera equipment descended on little downtown Fairhope and started snapping pictures of everything. Awesome!

Here are some of my pictures from the day:

Henry the Pelican decided he was going to catch lunch at Fairhope Pier. Did I mention he was about 3 feet away? Way cool!

One of the cutest kids…

Isnt this one of the cutest kids you have ever seen? I wish I could say that there was a good story behind this picture but really I came home and had my camera with me. E. greeted me at the door and I asked him to pose for a picture and this is what he came up with. One of the benefits of living with a professional photographer I guess is learning how to pose. Dead Sexy E.!

Wilson

oooo… another picturesque wedding. I love this stuff. These are from a week or so ago. The wedding was in Orange Beach at the Presbyterian Church and the reception was on the beach at the Gulf Shores State Park pavilion.

Matt Jones of 218 Consulting

Matt used to be the executive pastor of Spanish Fort United Methodist Church but he now resides in Huntsville and does consulting work for churches all over. He is a good friend so when he came back into town this past week we got together for some Mexican food. Matt needed some headshots for work so I was more than happy to oblige.

Google the dog

We are dog-sitting a friend’s dog and he named the dog Google. I like it. Anyway, we were setting up lights for a portrait session a few days ago and this is a test shot out of that set-up time. This was just a test… only a test…

Abstract

I was feeling very abstract the this past Sat night. We went with a group from church to see the Soloist (which was very good by the way) and afterwards we were sitting outside of Starbucks at the Eastern Shore Center and I was taking pictures. There was almost no light as it was 10pm or so. But the 5D mkII works well in that setting. Anyway, here are a few of the shots from that…

Was feeling very abstract tonight.

FM Talk 106.5 (the pirate)

In case you missed the article in the Lagniappe 106.5 The Pirate is changing it’s format. My design studio is handling their website. But Sean Sullivan wanted some promo shots for their media kit and so I set up a portable studio in their office (read limited space) and took this.

Welsh - Masters Wedding

Masters Wedding 2

Easter weekend was a busy one for me. I shot the Welsh/Masters wedding on Sat afternoon in Daphne and then left to head directly to the Saenger to take photos for Bay Community Church’s Easter at the Saenger Agape Worship Service. It was awesome to say the least. I love this little thing called photography so when I have days like that I am stoked. Anyway, the Welsh/Masters wedding was in Daphne off of 181 and when I stepped foot onto the property I knew the pictures were going to be great. They had some large trees on property, horses, an old camping trailer and all of the attendees were dressed to the nines. It was awesome. Thanks Madeleine for letting me take part in her big day!

Masters Wedding 1

She had this to say…

In planning my wedding, I made a deliberate decision NOT to use a professional photographer because I had no tolerance for the type of staged, phony pictures that I seemed to see everywhere… a few meetings with other photographers only convinced me that I was right… until a friend gave me Marcus’s number THREE DAYS before the wedding. Marcus was super-friendly, helpful, and, incredibly, he agreed to work with me on such short notice. I gave him very little instruction other than discussing my personal aesthetic and just asked him to shoot pretty pictures when he saw them. I have been delighted with the result, have totally reversed my opinion on wedding photography, and highly recommend him to anyone who wants pretty pictures of a special day, without the schmaltz.

Masters Wedding 2

For the record I can do the schmaltz too but I knew it would be lost with Madeleine. Although it was kind of fun when I had a group of 30 people gaze longingly to the left in an emotional way. j/k

Chris and Carrie Bunn Wedding

Took these images at the Bunn wedding wink They are friends and were getting married at their new home in Fairhope. It was a wonderful ceremony. Couple of shots.

I love cakes therefore my cake shots usually turn out well. Maybe I should just specialize in really high end weddings where I only shoot the cake. wink OK maybe not…

A New Beginning

Every once in awhile you need to shake the cobwebs loose and regroup. You may not be able to tell too much of a difference but we have completely redesigned the website from the foundation up. First off we moved from Wordpress to ExpressionEngine. We added quite a bit of functionality so that we could have a photo portfolio section that made sense and did not require visitors to click 25 times to see 2 images of weddings. By visiting the portfolio section you can now click on the category and immediately filter out all of the images that do not apply. Kinda neat! We also added this blog section so that I(Marcus) can occassionally ramble on like I am doing right now wink There are a bunch of other things that are small but will be nice for us in administrating the site.

We still have images to upload so if you are not seeing something you can either .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to find out if it is something that we have experience photographing or if we can refer you to someone that does.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
M.
